Legend has it that in 1400, a horse suffering from eczema walked into thermal springs near the village of La Roche-Posay, France, and was instantly cured of its skin disorder.
Over the following centuries, the spring’s reputation spread across Europe, and in 1975, a group of enterprising dermatologists founded La Roche-Posay Laboratoire Dermatologique with the goal of developing skin care products that harnessed the power of this uniquely soothing water.
For more than 50 years, La Roche-Posay has been providing medical-grade solutions for common skin concerns. Now, thanks to its recently-announced partnership with Walmart, its award-winning formulas are more readily available than ever.
La Roche-Posay launches in Walmart
On April 3, Walmart and La Roche-Posay announced that the skincare line would be carried by 1,460 Walmart stores.
“The decision to bring La Roche-Posay to Walmart is rooted in our shared commitment to providing healthy skin, fueled by science and purpose, and driven by patient-centricity and accessibility,” La Roche-Posay’s General Manager Rachelle Mladjenovic said in a statement.
“By launching at Walmart, we are significantly expanding the reach of our mission to make science backed skincare more accessible,” she continued.
Walmart won’t just be carrying La Roche-Posay products, it will also be working with the brand to train its pharmacists on the benefits and uses of the brand and its products.
“Through specialized training, the brands will empower Walmart pharmacists to serve as specialized skincare advisors, providing personalized consultations that address complex needs, including the skin side effects of medical treatments,” the partnership announcement read.
While the full range of La Roche-Posay products won’t be available on Walmart’s shelves, customers will be able to pick up some of the brand’s best-sellers.

Walmart has become a beauty destination
Over the past few years, Walmart has been working to become a beauty and wellness destination.
In 2022, the retailer launched Walmart Start, a beauty brand accelerator program that pushes emerging brands to new heights through space on the store’s shelves. To date, the program has had three classes, giving rise to a number of major players in the space including Dossier and Sundae Body.
Last year, Walmart added 60 new beauty brands to its offerings. Including a number of premiere labels.
“Walmart is here to be the most trusted and accessible beauty destination for everyone to look and feel their best every day,” Walmart U.S. Vice President of Beauty Merchandising Vinima Shekhar said in a statement at the time.
“Customers have been loving the addition of premium beauty to Walmart since we first launched our initial assortment a few years ago,” she continued. “We’ve worked to identify brands that our customers are looking for across the category and are excited to bring them to Walmart.”
More retail:
- 12-year-old beauty brand closing nearly all stores
- IHOP has good news for breakfast lovers
- Home Depot sees worrisome shift in consumer behavior
This new partnership with La Roche-Posay, then, is a continuation of that long-term goal.
“We are thrilled to expand La Roche-Posay skincare into our stores and make advanced skincare more accessible for our customers,” Shekhar said in this week’s announcement. “Our beauty strategy is anchored in ensuring customers have access to the brands and products they need, want and love, across every tier of the category.”
“Through the combination of our trusted, knowledgeable team of pharmacists and the science backed skin care of La Roche-Posay, Walmart will further strengthen its place as a leading skin care destination,” she continued.
Where to buy La Roche-Posay
